Burn Baby Burn (Off the Fat)! – A Review of The Skinny Confidential Bombshell Body Guide

When Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential came out with her Bombshell Body Guide, I was intrigued and excited to learn how my fave blogger ever stays in shape. I’ve been following Lauryn’s blog for years now, and was always interested to know how she eats flamin’ hot cheetos while maintaining a fit and toned figure, and now I get it. These past few months I’ve been incorporating her workouts into my weekly routine and have been loving them.

[A little sneak peek. Photo cred: TSC Bombshell Body Guide]

Here’s the lowdown on TSC BBG:

  • A 28-week plan filled with fat-burning, muscle-toning workouts for the girl who likes a plan (hi!) – all which can be done in 27 minutes
  • Effective, targeted workouts like “Muffin Top Blaster” & “Team Tight Ass” – Yaaaaas
  • Exclusive online membership so that you can interact with other like-minded users, and even Lauryn herself
  • Healthy meal plans and recipes that fuel your body & taste amazing

Watch her vid for more info:

What I love about it:

  • 27. minute. workouts. It’s perfect for the busy woman who’s always on the go because, let’s be real, that’s every single one of us.
  • Her recipes are honestly so good – The TSC Hotcakes are a weekly staple (and boyfriend-approved!) He always requests them.
  • With the 28-week guide, it gives you 3 workouts a week, so that leaves room to incorporate all of the other workouts you love. For me, I like to add in cardio and barre classes.
  • It’s a great at-home workout. All you need is a mat and a set of dumbbells.
  • It’s just the right amount of challenging. The workouts don’t feel so unattainable to where you get fed up and quit, but they kick your ass in all the right ways.

Thank you to Lauryn & The Skinny Confidential team for the opportunity to try out this amazing workout guide. While my one-month membership was comped, all opinions are my own.

Girl Boss Guide ft. Kelly Boring of Kale Me Kelly

GBG_KMK

Full bellies of kale & salmon and a half a bottle of rose’ later (#BALANCE), it was pretty apparent that Kelly (the beauty & brains behind Kale Me Kelly) and I are pretty much the same person. From hearing her perspective on maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle to how to combat insecurities, Kelly is like a big sister you’ve never had – she’s relatable, compassionate and REAL. I’m so excited to bring you this interview with who I consider to be a great blogging mentor and friend (We first met up over a rooftop spin class and some insane BBQ if you were wondering…)

Yes Girl: Tell me about your blog and the inspiration behind it.

Kelly Boring: Kale me Kelly came about because of my love and passion for food. I originally thought it would just be a food blog, but I realized how much I loved working out and going to different classes and since I’m such a foodie, that has really helped me keep a healthy balance in my life. Now, I’ve transitioned into more of a lifestyle blog and I’m really happy with it – I think your blog should be a representation of who you are.

YG: What does a day in the life of a blogger look like?

KB: I try to plan and curate blog posts whenever I have the time or the inspiration. In the evenings, sometimes I’m going to an event, working on planning an event of my own or getting together with other bloggers.

YG: You always seem to eat super healthy meals. What does a typical day of eating look like for you?

KB: I try to stick to a “normal” eating plan Monday – Friday. Usually if I’ve done an intense workout in the morning, I’ll have two pieces of Ezekiel toast, a little avocado and an egg or Greek yogurt, fruit & Purely Elizabeth granola – I’m addicted. Then I’ll have an apple with peanut butter, hummus and veggies, nuts or half of a protein bar for a snack and try to get a lunch workout in. I love my Buddha Bowls for lunch! I’m experimenting with more vegetarian meals. Dinner is usually some sort of protein paired with a veggie.

YG: What does your workout routine look like?

KB: Right now, I love going to Pink Barre classes in the morning – the lower weights and high-reps are doing wonders for me! It totally lengthens you out. If I can, I’ll try to fit in another type of workout during the middle of the day to give myself a mental break.  I also like to incorporate spin or some other sort of cardio class. I like to mix it up and do what I’m in the mood for.

kmk2

YG: Let’s talk about balance. How do you manage a healthy lifestyle while still giving in to your cravings?

KB: Well, we’re conducting this interview over a bottle of rose’ sooo… obviously I appreciate balance! I used to be really hardcore with my eating, and I realized that just wasn’t the way to live. For me, it’s all about balancing out healthier meals with my indulgences. If you know you’re going to Happy Hour later that night, eat healthier during the day to balance it out. If you want a glass of wine on a Tuesday, go for it. If you’re maintaining a healthy lifestyle, eating right & working out, one day or one meal is not going to make or break you.

YG: What advice do you have for people trying to maintain a healthier lifestyle?

KB: I’m learning that when you eat is very important. I also think it’s crucial to mix up your workouts – your body needs confusion.

YG: When you’re not cooking, what are your favorite healthy spots in ATL?

KB: I love True Food’s Quinoa Burger, or any of their fish or bowls. Juicy Jenny is my jam, too. It’s all healthy, vegan and you really get your bang for your buck. I also love getting a bunless burger at Zinburger with zucchini or sweet potato fries!

YG: Favorite indulgence?

KB: Mexican – hands down!

kmk3

YG: How do you deal with any insecurities and keep a positive body image?

KB: Anyone that says they don’t have body image concerns – I think that they’re lying. There is a lot of pressure to have the perfect body and there’s not a single girl who doesn’t feel that pressure at times. Ultimately, we’re all just normal girls trying to have careers and work out and maintain a social life – the last thing we need is this pressure to be perfect! For years, I was totally consumed with the idea of perfection and it’s something I continue to struggle with today. A lot of us are constantly thinking about attaining something else… we want this car, we want that handbag, we want to get down to this weight. There’s always something else we want to attain, and we can’t keep that up – it’s important to just try to be content with where you are in your journey.

YG: You’ve recently launched Girl Talk Series which is super exciting! What’s the story behind GTS?

KB: Girl Talk Series actually started on my living room floor with two other bloggers who, at that point, we had maybe known each other a couple of months – but I knew we were like-minded women with similar interests who wanted to do something to benefit similar women in the community. The idea behind it was getting women together to network and build authentic friendships with one another. It’s really difficult to make girlfriends when you become an adult and maybe move to a new city, so we want to help women do that with these events. This year, we’re hosting mixers, brunches and other events that incorporate guest speakers who are all different in their experience levels and backgrounds. Toward the end of the year, we’re hosting our first retreat which I am so excited about! Our goal is to create a community of like-minded women that like to do things together.

YG: What advice do you have for other female entrepreneurs?

KB: The three tips I would give someone who wants to get out there and be a #GirlBoss are to keep every door open – you never know who you’re going to meet. Going to networking/young professional events is also great – it helps you cast a larger net and again, you never know who you might meet. Last, use every opportunity to discover or pursue your passion.

Girl Boss Guide ft. Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential

Screen Shot 2016-04-22 at 12.50.53 PM

So, I’m fangirling so hard right now because I had the opportunity to interview my all-time favorite blogger and one of the people who originally inspired me to start Yes Girl – Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential! You guys, she knows her shit. Not only is she a healthy lifestyle guru but she and her fiance’ Michael have some amazing, amazing advice on business, blogging, Snapchat and other social media, following your passion, etc., etc. As someone who works in PR/social media and blogs on the side, I’ve found their advice to be so incredibly helpful in a kind of light-a-fire-under-your-ass-and-get-shit-done kind of way.

My conversation with her is geared towards more of her health and lifestyle advice, but I seriously recommend checking out more on Lauryn here:

+ Influencer marketing, How to go Viral & Vlogging on The #AskGaryVee Show

+ Consistency, Snapchat & Hustle on Refashion.co podcast

+ The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast

Without further ado, so, so excited to turn it over to Lauryn of TSC.

Yes Girl: What does your weekly workout routine look like?

Lauryn Evarts: No matter what, I try to move or do something active every single day, even if it’s just walking to get coffee or walking the dogs. I usually do The Skinny Confidential Bombshell Body Guide 3 times per week, walk uphill on the treadmill twice per week, and do a Pilates or yoga class once or twice per week. I like to mix it up!

The Skinny Confidential BBG1

YG: What’s your best advice for female entrepreneurs like yourself?

LE: Approach everything you do with passion. Think first and foremost about creating the best content or product you can, then think about monetization. Also, be patient. Growing a following or a business takes time.

lauryn_evarts-24

YG: I’ve heard you talk about “balancing your diet like a checkbook”, can you tell me a little more about what this looks like/what you recommend?

LE: For me, living a healthy lifestyle isn’t about depriving, starving, or punishing myself. It’s about balance. Think kale in one hand, champagne in the other. I enjoy healthy food, exercise, & nutrition, but I’m not going to rule out dessert, a good lazy Saturday, or my favorite cheat snack— HOT CHEETOS!

YG: What does a regular day of eating look like for you?

LE: Typically I wake up & immediately head to the kitchen to make a TSC Detox Drink, AND coffee. Then I hit the gym, and opt for some sort of protein after ( eggs or a green smoothie with my favorite protein powder ). Throughout the day I snack constantly. I’ll eat almonds, berries, kale chips, hummus, a slice of cheese, anything I’m in the mood for. Then dinner I usually go for something tasty, healthy, & filling! Lately Michael & I are loving brussels sprouts, salmon, & baked sweet potato!

The Skinny Confidential BBG2

YG: What’s a typical day like in TSC world?

LE: Typically I work out, work, & walk my dogs every day. I love squeezing in time with friends or family when I can. I run errands ( nails, hair, shopping, hiking, etc. ) with friends too!

YG: Your & Michael’s relationship seems pretty rock solid. [ps: you guys kill me on Snapchat] What’s your advice for maintaining a healthy, great relationship?

LE: Relationships take work. They take compromise. Michael & I have learned each other, we let each other be ourselves. We love to make each other laugh, I think having fun with your significant other is VERY important. The most important thing though, is trust and having each other’s back 100%.

Engagement-photos-131

YG: Self-love can be hard for a lot of women – Tell me how you maintain a positive body image and how you deal with insecurity.

LE: When you’re putting in an honest effort to take care of yourself, you sweat your butt off during workouts, & you mostly opt for clean healthy food, the body you always wanted will come naturally. Feeling clean and energized from living a healthy lifestyle naturally improves mood. It’s crazy, but I think if women had a healthier relationship with exercising and food, they would naturally feel more secure and empowered.

A big ‘thank you’ to Lauryn for being so incredibly authentic, kind, helpful & letting me include her in this series. Make sure to check her out at theskinnyconfidential.com for all you could ever want to know on coconut oil lube, vagina steaming, boob jobs & coffee enemas!!

Sometimes all you’ve got to do is ask, people! Happy Tuesday xx
