Burn Baby Burn (Off the Fat)! – A Review of The Skinny Confidential Bombshell Body Guide

When Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential came out with her Bombshell Body Guide, I was intrigued and excited to learn how my fave blogger ever stays in shape. I’ve been following Lauryn’s blog for years now, and was always interested to know how she eats flamin’ hot cheetos while maintaining a fit and toned figure, and now I get it. These past few months I’ve been incorporating her workouts into my weekly routine and have been loving them.

Here’s the lowdown on TSC BBG:

  • A 28-week plan filled with fat-burning, muscle-toning workouts for the girl who likes a plan (hi!) – all which can be done in 27 minutes
  • Effective, targeted workouts like “Muffin Top Blaster” & “Team Tight Ass” – Yaaaaas
  • Exclusive online membership so that you can interact with other like-minded users, and even Lauryn herself
  • Healthy meal plans and recipes that fuel your body & taste amazing

Watch her vid for more info:

What I love about it:

  • 27. minute. workouts. It’s perfect for the busy woman who’s always on the go because, let’s be real, that’s every single one of us.
  • Her recipes are honestly so good – The TSC Hotcakes are a weekly staple (and boyfriend-approved!) He always requests them.
  • With the 28-week guide, it gives you 3 workouts a week, so that leaves room to incorporate all of the other workouts you love. For me, I like to add in cardio and barre classes.
  • It’s a great at-home workout. All you need is a mat and a set of dumbbells.
  • It’s just the right amount of challenging. The workouts don’t feel so unattainable to where you get fed up and quit, but they kick your ass in all the right ways.

4 Things Guys Just Don’t Get About Working Out

Summer time brings about new goals of getting in shape, staying in shape or just accepting the motto of “If you can’t tone it, tan it” and lathering up with self-tanner for that *natural* glow. Physical aspect aside, a healthy workout routine is really a must-have, especially as we get further into our 20s or 30s. Whether you’re power walking three times a week or double-teaming Kayla Itsines with hour-long SoulCycle classes every day, I’ve always been a proponent of the “something is better than nothing” mentality, but I still think it’s important to maintain an active lifestyle.

That being said, I feel like there’s a lot of guys (not all of them, but a lot) that think working out should be one way, and one way only. Here’s a few things I think we could teach the boys:

1 | It’s about quality, not quantity. Just because a guy spends an hour and a half lifting doesn’t mean that our 20-minute HIIT routine doesn’t torch just as many, if not more, calories. Sure, some workouts should be longer than others, but at the end of the day it really is not about how long you’re spending in the gym any more. With our excessively busy lives, there’s just not time to sit in there all day doing bicep curls and wogging (walk + jog, obv) on the treadmill. Studies are now showing that HIIT is an amazing workout for men & women alike.

2 | Little weights go a LONG way. One of my life goals is to get Danny to join me for a barre class – 2-pound weights and all. Those suckers burn so good. I don’t think men understand the impact of what small, consistent movements with light weights can do for those long, lean muscles. Sure, I think it’s great to alternate some heavier lifting sessions in throughout your week, but barre or other classes with a similar layout are no joke.

3 | Home gym > LA Fitness. Hear me out here – I just literally can’t with all of the grunting men and annoying ass people buzzing around the big gyms. (ClassPass ruined me and now I’m spoiled) So there’s something I want to get straight – while it is not ideal for every workout, working out in your home or apartment does not mean you’re not getting a solid sweat going. Think of the amazing workout guides – Kayla Itsines, The Skinny Confidential, Way of Gray – that require little to no equipment, yet make you want to cry. You can move your coffee table out of the way & get in a great workout, all without having to make eye contact with anyone at all – yay!

4 | If we’re planning on working out, it’s not just blocking out 30 minutes to one hour of our day. It’s more like three hours of our day. …Even if we use dry shampoo. Sure, you can throw on some makeup and a flowy dress and be out the door but, like, not nearly as fast as men can. We literally have to plan our schedules around making sure there’s time to get our shit together afterwards and get ready for the day or night. Making ourselves pretty takes time, okay?

So, here’s your homework: take your BF to a barre class and watch him sweat ;) – or wait, are those tears…?

Happy Saturday! xx

Girl Boss Guide ft. Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential

So, I’m fangirling so hard right now because I had the opportunity to interview my all-time favorite blogger and one of the people who originally inspired me to start Yes Girl – Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential! You guys, she knows her shit. Not only is she a healthy lifestyle guru but she and her fiance’ Michael have some amazing, amazing advice on business, blogging, Snapchat and other social media, following your passion, etc., etc. As someone who works in PR/social media and blogs on the side, I’ve found their advice to be so incredibly helpful in a kind of light-a-fire-under-your-ass-and-get-shit-done kind of way.

My conversation with her is geared towards more of her health and lifestyle advice, but I seriously recommend checking out more on Lauryn here:

+ Influencer marketing, How to go Viral & Vlogging on The #AskGaryVee Show

+ Consistency, Snapchat & Hustle on Refashion.co podcast

+ The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast

Without further ado, so, so excited to turn it over to Lauryn of TSC.

Yes Girl: What does your weekly workout routine look like?

Lauryn Evarts: No matter what, I try to move or do something active every single day, even if it’s just walking to get coffee or walking the dogs. I usually do The Skinny Confidential Bombshell Body Guide 3 times per week, walk uphill on the treadmill twice per week, and do a Pilates or yoga class once or twice per week. I like to mix it up!

The Skinny Confidential BBG1

YG: What’s your best advice for female entrepreneurs like yourself?

LE: Approach everything you do with passion. Think first and foremost about creating the best content or product you can, then think about monetization. Also, be patient. Growing a following or a business takes time.

YG: I’ve heard you talk about “balancing your diet like a checkbook”, can you tell me a little more about what this looks like/what you recommend?

LE: For me, living a healthy lifestyle isn’t about depriving, starving, or punishing myself. It’s about balance. Think kale in one hand, champagne in the other. I enjoy healthy food, exercise, & nutrition, but I’m not going to rule out dessert, a good lazy Saturday, or my favorite cheat snack— HOT CHEETOS!

YG: What does a regular day of eating look like for you?

LE: Typically I wake up & immediately head to the kitchen to make a TSC Detox Drink, AND coffee. Then I hit the gym, and opt for some sort of protein after ( eggs or a green smoothie with my favorite protein powder ). Throughout the day I snack constantly. I’ll eat almonds, berries, kale chips, hummus, a slice of cheese, anything I’m in the mood for. Then dinner I usually go for something tasty, healthy, & filling! Lately Michael & I are loving brussels sprouts, salmon, & baked sweet potato!

YG: What’s a typical day like in TSC world?

LE: Typically I work out, work, & walk my dogs every day. I love squeezing in time with friends or family when I can. I run errands ( nails, hair, shopping, hiking, etc. ) with friends too!

YG: Your & Michael’s relationship seems pretty rock solid. [ps: you guys kill me on Snapchat] What’s your advice for maintaining a healthy, great relationship?

LE: Relationships take work. They take compromise. Michael & I have learned each other, we let each other be ourselves. We love to make each other laugh, I think having fun with your significant other is VERY important. The most important thing though, is trust and having each other’s back 100%.

YG: Self-love can be hard for a lot of women – Tell me how you maintain a positive body image and how you deal with insecurity.

LE: When you’re putting in an honest effort to take care of yourself, you sweat your butt off during workouts, & you mostly opt for clean healthy food, the body you always wanted will come naturally. Feeling clean and energized from living a healthy lifestyle naturally improves mood. It’s crazy, but I think if women had a healthier relationship with exercising and food, they would naturally feel more secure and empowered.

A big ‘thank you’ to Lauryn for being so incredibly authentic, kind, helpful & letting me include her in this series. Make sure to check her out at theskinnyconfidential.com for all you could ever want to know on coconut oil lube, vagina steaming, boob jobs & coffee enemas!!

Sometimes all you’ve got to do is ask, people! Happy Tuesday xx
