When Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential came out with her Bombshell Body Guide, I was intrigued and excited to learn how my fave blogger ever stays in shape. I’ve been following Lauryn’s blog for years now, and was always interested to know how she eats flamin’ hot cheetos while maintaining a fit and toned figure, and now I get it. These past few months I’ve been incorporating her workouts into my weekly routine and have been loving them.

What I love about it:

7 Things You Can Do with Your Girlfriends that Aren’t Dinner & Drinks

We’re all guilty of it. It’s our escape from a busy work week, our Saturday night plans to look forward to or our chance to catch up on gossip over a glass of pinot and a cheese plate – we LOVE to do dinner and drinks with our girlfriends. In fact, probably 97% of my plans with my girlfriends consist of one or the other (usually both). While there’s something about a glass of wine and a delicious meal that just *soothes the soul*, let’s face it – it’s tough on your wallet AND your waistline. So how can we combat the ever-tempting option of dinner & drinks for our next girls’ night out?

I’ve come up with a few creative ways to spend time with your girlfriends without making you broke or feel gross. DISCLAIMER: I am in full support of going out with girlfriends for a bite and a drink (or three) BUT maybe try and limit to once or twice a week if you’re trying to save some ca$h and keep your hot bod, k?

1// Take a group fitness class.

Whether it’s barre, spinning or a bootcamp class you’ve been wanting to try, recruit a friend to pass the time quicker! Bonus – since you burned all those calories, those post-class mimosas are totally acceptable.

2// Go shopping.

Remember the days your mom would drop you off at the mall for a couple hours with a friend and it was, like, the funnest part of your weekend? Go check out a cute boutique and bring your right hand gal with you for a much-needed second opinion on those high-waisted jeans.

3// Go on a walk.

I honestly kind of love this idea but never do it. The whole point of getting together with a girlfriend is to catch up on each other’s lives, so why not scout out a pretty trail or path and chit chat while you burn some cals?

4// Create your own spa day.

You can buy cheap-ass face masks at Target for $1.99 and pick your fave Essie nail color for just about $8 a bottle. Pick up some champagne and pamper yo’selves.

5// Host dinner at home.

It’s amazing how much money you can save by cooking at home verses going out. Buy a cheap bottle of wine, whip up some apps and pick an easy recipe off Pinterest for a cozy girls’ night in.

6// Get hooked on a new Netflix series.

I’m currently tuned in to Orange is the New Black, but Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder are next up on my list. Get back to your middle school days and have a *slumber party*, complete with comfortable PJ’s, mani/pedis and a binge-watching escapade of whatever show you choose.

7// Attend a workshop, seminar or conference with a like-minded gal pal.

Call me a loser but I’m so into this stuff Lol. Find a friend who’s also into fitness or bettering herself in her career – whatever it may be – and find a workshop, seminar or conference that you can go to together for a refreshed perspective and some great takeaways.

4 Things You Can Do For A More Productive Week

Mondays symbolize another weekend come and gone, often everyone’s least favorite day of the week. But since I tend to “start” my weeks on Sundays, I have to say Mondays aren’t all that bad. While I’d much rather spend my Sunday brunching or curled up in bed watching Netflix (which is totally acceptable sometimes), setting myself up for a successful week really begins on Sunday morning. Anything I can do to cut time down in the mornings before work is super helpful. Here’s a few tips I use to get myself prepared for the week ahead.

Sundays

Meal prep

Yes, it’s cliché but the saying “fail to plan, plan to fail” is very true if you have goals of eating healthily throughout your week. I usually plan what meals I’m going to make that week for breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners, make a grocery list and pick up everything I’ll need at the store. Then, I’ll spend about 2-3 hours prepping what I can. It can definitely be time-consuming,  but I feel so much better going into Monday with a layout of healthy meals for the week to get back on track after a sometimes overindulgent weekend.

Schedule your workouts

I like to plan at least most of my workouts for the week on Sundays and write them in my planner, that way I have a big picture overview of what my workout schedule will look like. If I’ve scheduled a class and written it down, it’s very unlikely that I’ll forget or skip it – it’s kind of like making an appointment with myself. I can also make sure I’m getting in a good mix of cardio and strength training if I plan it accordingly.

Pack your gym bag

While I would like to say I’m perfect and always plan my workouts for the week, sometimes I forget or just get lazy. But by packing a gym outfit and sneakers on Sunday night and throwing it in my car, I know I’m prepared to jump into a class after work or get a quick session in at my gym without having to go all the way home first.

Go through your closet

This obviously isn’t something you need to do every Sunday, but I always feel good after I’ve gone through clothes and pulled out things I don’t want or need anymore. I like to keep my closet seasonal, too, keeping a bin of all clothes and shoes I won’t need for a few months in the back of my closet, because who really needs three pairs of winter boots taking up valuable closet space during July? With the cooler weather just around the corner, I spent some time replacing my summery tops and sundresses with all of my fall essentials. This way it’s much easier to pick out an outfit for work or going out without having to throw all of your clothes aimlessly around your room to find something to wear.
